Being a bachelor in the Lower Haight neighborhood of San Francisco, I get the opportunity to check out a lot of unique restaurants. A while back, I came across a place called Indian Oven, and decided to check it out. Considering I had traveled throughout Delhi after university, I knew exactly what Indian cuisine should taste like and what to expect. And after being served my meal, I was very impressed with the authenticity that Indian Oven has to offer. Not just in their food, but also in the ambiance set in the restaurant.
First of all, the food is delicious. They offer some of my favorite Indian starters like papadum and vegetable pakoras. I even ventured out one day and tried the bengan pakoras, which I was pleased and will happily consider again. Their chicken meals include masala dishes that mix meat and curry. I am a huge fan of authentic curry and I could hardly notice a difference between the curry I had while in India, and that which I had at Indian Oven. I took a date to the Indian Oven one evening and she enjoyed the fish saag. This was a meal I had never had before, but she said she enjoyed it a lot. We plan to go back for a second meal!
Because of my journeys throughout Asia, I was able to spark up conversation with the management at Indian Oven. They are very friendly and quiet enthusiastic to hear about my travels and experiences. I informed them how closely their food resembled authentic Indian food, and I was informed that they had culinary experience while in India. This is great to hear, unlike many restaurants that simply try and duplicate recipes without having a real understanding of how their meals are intended to be made.
Indian Oven had me hooked after my first meal. I had been craving authentic Indian food for quite some time and was happy to stumble across this restaurant when I did. For anyone who lives in, or just outside of, Lower Haight, be sure to visit Indian Oven for delicious curry and other Indian meals.
